India Shining

As India stands on the threshold of an economic boom, there is a lot to be done on basic human rights, as these articles show:

Selective abortion was causing the loss of 500,000 girl births a year. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/4601184.stm

The girl child has traditionally been considered inferior and a liability - a bride's dowry can cripple a poor family financially.

Notice that the girl is considered a liability primarily coz her parents have to arrange her dowry. Yet no one talks about abolishing this disgraceful practice - much easier to just kill the girl. What will it take for us to break out of this ridiculous 'tradition'?

Anger at 'shameful' Indian Gay Law http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/4602068.stm

Another instance of the famous Indian double standards. It's all right to go about raping and killing women, but you dare not hold hands in public.

Bang Bang

Just cant get this outta my head

I was five and he was six
We rode on horses made of sticks
He wore black and I wore white
He would always win the fight

Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down.

Seasons came and changed the time
When I grew up, I called him mine
He would always laugh and say
"Remember when we used to play?"

Bang bang, I shot you down
Bang bang, you hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, I used to shoot you down.

Music played, and people sang
Just for me, the church bells rang.

Now he's gone, I don't know why
And till this day, sometimes I cry
He didn't even say goodbye
He didn't take the time to lie.

Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down
